5) Old Appliances. Another reason your energy consumption is high is perhaps your appliances are too old. If you use older appliances, they consume alot more electricity which adds up on your electric bill. Because newer appliances are more energy efficient, <\/span>upgrade your appliances into energy efficient ones.  This includes your clothes washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, swimming pool pump, AND your water heater!  If all those things are older than 5 years, you are easily paying 20-30% more on your power bill depending on your particular situation.
